Grassland’s 2024 Adventure

2024.09.12

For the second year in a row, we brought our team together for a fun-filled week of activities and team building – this time heading to the heart of the boreal forest at Elk Ridge Resort!

Team Grassland Ventures Touches Down

Kicking things off on a beautiful Monday, team members started arriving from across the country – touching down on Saskatchewan soil for an opportunity to kick back and relax while getting to know one another even better. The team was fortunate with their timing, as they got to see the canola fields from above, glowing in their brightest yellow.

Day one was all about getting everyone to Regina, but for those who arrived earlier, the team headed out for dinner at one of the city’s local restaurants. It’s always a blast catching up with people face-to-face, sharing laughs and good food, and setting the tone for the days ahead.

Teeing Off

Day two started with a team meeting at the head office in Regina. It gave us a chance to reflect on all of the work we accomplished together and the exciting projects that lie ahead.

After all the vehicles had been loaded up, we started making our way up to Elk Ridge. From crop dusters to elk on the road, and the prairies at their finest, road-tripping up north was an experience many of us will not soon forget.

We arrived in Waskesiu mid-afternoon and got ready for the team's first activity — a twilight golf scramble. Breaking into teams of four, we spent a beautiful evening out on the course swinging, laughing, and cheering each other on, surrounded by Elk Ridge’s breathtaking scenery.

While no hole-in-ones were made, we all had a blast!

After making our way through nine holes and working up an appetite, we headed to the clubhouse for a team dinner. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as we all enjoyed a fantastic meal, unwinding and enjoying the local food while reflecting on our day together.

Gearing Up for Adventure

Day three offered something different for everyone; an early morning tee-off for those wanting to continue their PGA tour practice (briefly delayed by a thunderstorm that woke many of us up), exploring Prince Albert National Park, fishing at the lake, and zip-lining through the boreal forest.

After wrangling everyone up from their morning activities, we drove into town for lunch, games, and swimming at Waskesiu Lake. From frisbee to stand-up paddle-boarding, to just lounging around, we all found some time to kick back and relax.

With the sun bearing down and the water not quite keeping us cool, we packed up early and headed back to the resort to get ready for that night's dinner — pizza at Pete's Terrace in Waskesiu. For those still hungry afterwards, we checked out a local ice cream shop and enjoyed another opportunity to cool down before wrapping up our retreat festivities.

Wrapping Up

This year’s Grassland Adventure was a whirlwind of camaraderie, team building, and unforgettable experiences. On day four, we embraced a day of freedom — some of us had to leave a bit early to return to Regina and catch flights, while others had the opportunity for a bit more exploration before heading home. We're all already looking forward to next year's retreat.

Until next time!
